DroneTalks Academy training opportunities on UAS Regulation, SORA 2.5, U-space & Airspace

DroneTalks Academy has introduced its 2026 training programme, offering a structured portfolio of courses focused on UAS regulation, SORA 2.5 methodology, U-space, and airspace integration. The programme is designed for professionals across the drone and aviation ecosystem who require a practical understanding of how unmanned operations are implemented within evolving regulatory frameworks.

The training approach combines theoretical foundations with applied learning, supported by real-world examples, current use cases, and insights from ongoing implementations. Participants are guided by instructors with experience across both industry and public authorities, including contributors to European regulatory frameworks and the development of SORA.

Two in-person group trainings form the core of the 2026 calendar. A five-day UAS Regulatory & SORA 2.5 Training will take place from 8–12 June 2026 in the Barcelona region in collaboration with BCN Drone Center. A second training, focused on U-space & SORA 2.5, will be held in Berlin from 28 September to 1 October 2026. Both courses are also available in an online format.

Across both trainings, the faculty brings extensive experience in aviation, regulation, and airspace management. The team includes professionals with backgrounds in organisations such as EASA, JARUS, national aviation authorities, and ATM providers, ensuring that the training reflects both regulatory intent and operational reality.

The Barcelona training focuses on the European regulatory framework for unmanned aviation, covering EASA, the Basic Regulation, and Regulation (EU) 2019/947, alongside developments such as U-space. It is structured in two parts: regulatory foundations followed by an in-depth application of the SORA 2.5 methodology, where participants learn how to perform risk assessments and prepare operational authorisations. The programme also includes live flight demonstrations, including U-space services, Remote ID, BVLOS drone operations, and emergency procedures, as well as organised activities that support networking among participants.

The Berlin training centres on the U-space ecosystem and its role in enabling safe and scalable drone operations. It covers U-space architecture, the role of U-Space Service Providers, certification processes, and interactions with Air Traffic Management. A dedicated SORA 2.5 module ensures participants can apply risk assessment methodologies within operational scenarios, supported by case studies and lessons learned from existing implementations such as Switzerland.

In addition to group sessions, DroneTalks Academy offers tailored training programmes for organisations. These are designed to address specific operational needs and can be delivered either on-site or online. The content is adapted to the participants’ level and may focus on areas such as SORA 2.5, UAS regulation, U-space, or airspace management, combining theory with practical use cases relevant to each organisation.

These customised programmes also provide structured overviews of European regulatory frameworks and, where relevant, comparisons with other systems such as the U.S. FAA approach. For organisations working on U-space, the training includes insight into the regulatory framework, certification of service providers, and operational integration with air traffic services. Airspace-focused modules further address how European airspace is organised and how drone operations are planned and authorised.

All trainings are delivered by experienced instructors and incorporate practical examples from current implementations, ensuring a relevant and application-oriented learning experience.

Lorenzo Murzilli, co-founder and CEO of Murzilli Consulting, is an aerospace engineer and recognised expert in aviation, airspace modernisation, system safety, and drones. He began his career working with Leonardo in Italy and Pilatus in Switzerland, where he played a key role in the development of the PC-24 business jet. He then joined the Swiss FOCA, first as a certification engineer and later leading the Innovation and Digitalisation Unit. During this time, he led the creation of the SORA methodology through his role as leader of JARUS WG-6, oversaw the Swiss U-space Implementation (SUSI) — the world’s first public-private U-space partnership — and contributed to shaping European drone regulations 2019/947 and the U-space regulatory framework. He is also a guest lecturer at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences and regularly delivers training on SORA and U-space fundamentals.

Juanjo Sola, Chief Regulatory Officer at Murzilli Consulting, is an aeronautical engineer with more than 15 years of experience in aviation and regulation. As former Head of the UAS Division at Spain’s Civil Aviation Authority (AESA), he led the creation of Spain’s drone department and oversaw UAS deployment within Spanish airspace, approving hundreds of drone operation applications including eVTOL initial test flights. During his career, he served as a Spanish representative on the ICAO RPAS Panel for 7 years, was a core member of JARUS contributing to the development of SORA Version 1.0, and represented Spain in EASA’s technical advisory group. His background as an ATC Training Manager and ATM/AIS Oversight Inspector provides participants with deep regulatory insight and a practical understanding of how frameworks are applied by authorities.

Pawel Trominski, Chief Technology Officer at Murzilli Consulting, brings deep technical expertise in UTM/U-space, Remote ID, and AI within the advanced air mobility sector. With a background in mathematics and computer science, he began his career in aviation R&D, contributing to projects including the first EGNOS signal measurements for the Polish Air Navigation Services and the development of GPS-based landing approach tools. He is a member of GUTMA, where he has played an active role in the standardisation of unmanned traffic management systems in Europe. At Murzilli Consulting, he supports organisations seeking to become approved U-space Service Providers, guides clients on regulatory compliance related to U-space services including connectivity, Remote ID and cybersecurity, and serves as technical lead for airspace management and software solutions, including the co-development of recommendations for the UK’s Remote ID strategy in collaboration with Baringa.

Rafael Pecos Macías, Deputy Director of the Spanish Office and Senior Manager for Airspace at Murzilli Consulting, brings over two decades of experience in aviation and airspace management. As former Head of Airspace Operational Coordination for New Entrants and Non-Standard Operations at ENAIRE, he led a team of 27 people and played a key role in the implementation of Spain’s first GNSS-based approach and the first GBAS approach in Malaga. He has also served as a representative in the Technical Task Force of CANSO Europe and on ICAO’s Instrument Flight Procedures Panel of experts. At Murzilli Consulting, he applies this expertise to projects involving UAS and ATM regulations, airspace management, and the integration of crewed and uncrewed aircraft.

Together, these training opportunities bring together regulatory knowledge and practical application, supporting professionals working across the drone and aviation ecosystem. Through expert-led instruction, real-world examples, and flexible delivery formats, the 2026 programme provides participants with a clear and applied understanding of UAS regulation, SORA 2.5, U-space, and airspace integration.
