The Danish Defence upgrades Insero RCMS/ALCMS at three air bases

The Danish Defence is upgrading its Insero Remote Control and Monitoring Systems (RCMS) to the latest version.

The updated software and new hardware for the advanced Remote Control and Monitoring System/Airfield Lighting Control and Monitoring System (Insero RCMS) will be installed by Insero Air Traffic Solutions this fall.

The Insero Remote Control and Monitoring System (RCMS, also known as IRIS and ALCMS) is used by air traffic controllers at the Danish Air Force to support the air traffic control as well as to gain full overview and control of all relevant technical equipment at their three air bases in Skrydstrup, Karup and Aalborg. This includes Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL), NAVAIDS, jet arrester gear, access gates, video surveillance, servers, network, Uninterruptible Power Supplies, etc.

The newly fielded Insero RCMS solution includes a state-of-the-art and intuitive user interface, adapted for optimum flight safety and usability for the air traffic controllers (ATCOs) as well as technical/maintenance staff.

The upgrade delivers several optimisations requested by ATCOs and maintenance users, including higher resolution and deeper data visibility. A geographically accurate aerodrome map shows all lights, equipment, runways and taxiways, and is prepared for future live display of aircraft and ground-vehicle tracks to support runway-incursion and ground-collision avoidance. The system is highly configurable: authorised users can customise layouts for different roles. In addition to traditional ALCMS controls, users can choose which information – such as meteorological data, procedures or video surveillance – is displayed.

The updated Insero RCMS for the first air base is currently going through the final stages of testing and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) is scheduled to be performed in November 2025. The remaining two air bases will follow over the coming months.
