A new cohort of air traffic control professionals from Cape Verde has graduated from SENASA after successfully completing their Initial Training and assessment, through which they obtained their licences for Aerodrome Control (ADC), together with Approach and Area Control Surveillance ratings (APS and ACS). In total, nine controllers (two women and seven men) will shortly take up positions at the airports designated by Cape Verde’s Air Navigation Service Provider (ASA – Aeropuertos e Segurança Aérea).
The diploma ceremony was attended by His Excellency the Ambassador of Cape Verde in Spain, Mr Manuel Eduardo Jorge Silva, accompanied by representatives of the African country’s Air Navigation Service Provider, including its Director of Human Resources, Leila Cristina Palavra Martins, as well as instructional, technical and administrative staff from the Air Traffic Control School and SENASA’s staff. SENASA’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Andrés Arranz, together with the Ambassador of Cape Verde in Spain, presented the diplomas to the graduates, highlighting not only their excellent technical preparation to perform in complex operational environments, but also their personal qualities, commitment and sense of responsibility towards Cabo Verde’s aviation safety.
The Ambassador of Cape Verde to Spain, Mr Manuel Eduardo Jorge Silva, has highlighted the importance of collaboration between countries, and specifically with organisations such as SENASA, in developing their service capabilities. In this regard, he praised the efforts made by the graduating students to acquire this technical expertise and their responsibility now for the country’s aviation safety.
For his part, the President of SENASA, Andrés Arranz, praised the technical collaboration with Cape Verde and ASA, built up over the years on the basis of trust, mutual respect and a shared vision of the development of the aviation sector as a driver of progress. He thanked the training staff and the team at the Air Traffic Control School for their excellent work and congratulated the students of this cohort on their hard work and dedication.
Due to its extensive national and international experience in training and consultancy for air traffic control, SENASA has developed a strong relationship with the aviation authority of Cape Verde, with which it maintains a cooperation agreement for the training of these professional profiles.
SENASA holds certification as an Approved Training Organisation (ATO) for initial Air Traffic Control training by the Civil Aviation Authority of Cape Verde, in accordance with CV-CAR 3 requirements. This enables Cape Verdean air traffic control professionals to receive their basic training in Aerodrome Control ratings (visual and instrument), as well as Area and Approach Control (procedural and surveillance). In addition, SENASA is accredited to provide training for air traffic control instructors and consultants for Cape Verde’s aeronautical authority.

In addition to having replica simulators at its facilities and an expert instructional team, aeronautical training at SENASA is characterised by a personalised methodology, with small working groups designed to achieve excellence in highly specialised and rigorous training, aligned with the demanding requirements of safe, efficient and sustainable aviation. Since 1995, more than 5000 people (3500 domestic and 1500 international) have been trained at SENASA’s Air Control School, helping to make our skies a safe environment for the development of air transport.
