Meijs currently works for the Royal Schiphol Group and is seconded as CEO to Maastricht Aachen Airport. He was previously CEO of Eindhoven Airport and Aeropuerto Internacional Reina Beatrix, the international airport of Aruba.
Chairman Wim Kuijken (LVNL Supervisory Board): “We are very pleased with the arrival of Joost Meijs. His extensive management experience in the aviation sector is of great importance for this position. He has knowledge and expertise that extends beyond the boardroom; his operational experience in particular is of great added value to LVNL. The Supervisory Board is convinced that flight safety will be his guiding principle and that he will steer the necessary developments and important dossiers in a steady and goal-oriented manner, as he did in his previous positions.”
Joost Meijs led Eindhoven Airport from 2008 to 2019, a period in which the airport underwent rapid development. His collaborative style, actively involving regional partners and residents, was significant in this regard. He then spent five years as CEO of the Aruba airport. Here, he and his team successfully navigated the airport through the COVID period and worked on a long-term strategy to become one of the most sustainable and future-oriented airports in South America. In October 2024, he joined Maastricht Aachen Airport to lead the airport towards a sustainable, environmentally conscious and future-proof situation.
Joost Meijs: “Aviation is personally meaningful to me, and LVNL plays a key role in the national aviation sector as an air navigation service provider. LVNL plays an important role in every strategic discussion concerning aviation in the Netherlands. I am therefore proud of the confidence placed in me to take on the role of CEO. There are exciting challenges ahead, and I am particularly looking forward to working with all my colleagues at LVNL to contribute to a safe, sustainable and healthy sector. Air traffic is in safe hands at LVNL, and I will continue to steer the organisation in this direction in collaboration with all stakeholders.”
The CEO works closely with Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Marlou Banning on the board. The board will soon be expanded to include a Chief Information Officer (CIO), for whom the selection procedure is currently underway. Chief Operational Officer (COO) Mark van Knippenberg is also part of the management team.
Joost Meijs has been appointed for a period of four years, which may be extended on the recommendation of the Supervisory Board. He succeeds Jac Jansen, who has been leading LVNL as interim CEO since April 2025. The Supervisory Board is very grateful to Jac for his great dedication and contribution to the management board during this period.
