iSNAP project completes validation milestone for air traffic management platform – SESAR JU

The iSNAP (iTEC SkyNex ATC Platform) Project, part of the SESAR virtual centre flagship, is advancing the iTEC SkyNex platform making it more flexible and scalable for air traffic management (ATM) services, in line with vision of the European ATM Master Plan.

A primary goal of iSNAP is to decouple ATM service provision from infrastructure, enhancing safety, resilience, and scalability. The platform evolution brings us closer a more flexible provision of ATM services, and with it enhanced safety, resilience and scalability of the ATM network.

The validation exercise, led by Indra, took place on 26 November 2024 at Indra’s facilities in Madrid. This exercise built on the previous ‘Middleware and Communications’ validation, incorporating the latest technical improvements.

The exercise was carried out by means of real-time simulation validation technique, performing seven solution scenarios/use cases. The key achievements include:

  • Additional operational modes and transitions for iTEC positions
  • Node set control and monitoring
  • Compatibility definition file update
  • Monitoring of safety nets
  • Tracking services and management of active track sources
  • Management of historic system messages
  • Multiple layer iGS hierarchy and remote supervision

The results of the exercise will be analysed to assess the effectiveness of the solutions. This marks another milestone in the project, demonstrating the continued progress of iSNAP.
