Indra to deploy its ACDM/AOP platform to improve the safety and efficiency of operations at Helsinki Airport for Finavia
  • The company will become a technological partner of the Finnish airport company after reaching a strategic partnership to implement, maintain and evolve its Collaborative Decision-Making system until 2031
  • The platform, which will be deployed in the cloud in compliance with the highest levels of cybersecurity, will support the digitalization of the airport’s operational processes and optimize the management and ground movements prior to take-off
  • It will therefore help mitigate operational congestion, reduce operating and fuel costs and cut CO 2 emissions, while providing an improved passenger experience, with fewer delays and more accurate forecasting of flight times
  • This flagship project in Europe will position Indra as a global benchmark for advanced airport management technology, with a solution that is particularly suitable for extreme winter weather conditions

Indra has signed a strategic partnership with Finnish airport company Finavia, to implement its A-CDM/i-AOP (Airport Collaborative Decision-Making/ initial Airport Operations Plan) system at Helsinki Airport, Finland´s main airport, with the aim of optimizing the management of its ground operations and the rotation of aircraft before take-off. Indra will also be tasked with the maintenance and future evolutions of the system until 2031.

The new A-CDM/i-AOP system will enable Finavia, which manages 20 airports in Finland, to guarantee greater flight visibility and predictability by detecting potential schedule deviations in advance, thereby minimizing operational congestion, helping increase airport capacity and ensuring savings in operating costs and fuel, with a consequent reduction in CO 2 emissions. It will also improve the passenger experience by reducing delays and making flight times more predictable.

Indra’s platform will be deployed in the cloud, it will be cybersecure, and it will incorporate data analytics and digitalization to ensure more efficient use of data collected from other systems and the automation of the operational processes, including any performed under extreme winter weather conditions. The solution integrates de-icing processes, a highly significant factor in the case of countries with a boreal climate such as Finland, in order to minimize the impact on rotations and ground operations.

Indra’s A-CDM solution will aid stakeholders involved in the collaborative decision making process to increase their awareness and to better manage the operations by means of a flexible solution adapted to different devices, including mobile interface.

Indra’s A-CDM/AOP solution will be fully integrated into the Network Manager in order to share flight arrival and departure information and issue alerts and notifications. It will also be integrated and certified by Eurocontrol to fully meet the specifications of the SESAR program, the driver of the Single European Sky, and the new European regulation that requires major European airports to procure this high level of integration and be A-CDM/AOP compliant by 2027. In this regard, the project will also contribute to optimizing the flow of air traffic in Europe.

This project will enhance Indra’s position as a global benchmark in advanced airport management technology, with a solution that is exceedingly reliable, even in extreme winter weather conditions, and reinforce its relationship with Finavia, to which it has been supplying air navigation systems for three decades.
