Hightech for Tower Vienna

Austro Control’s air traffic controllers receive high-tech solution from Styria. The controller working positions in the ATC Tower at Vienna Airport will be equipped with the new “OneControl” system from ADB Safegate in the coming years, bringing them up to the latest technological standards.

OneControl, one of the world’s most advanced tower suites, will be used in the future. Developed in Graz, it is already successfully in operation at top international airports such as Frankfurt, JFK New York, Munich, and Kuwait.

Austro Control chose ADB Safegate’s innovative system as part of an international tendering process. “With OneControl, we are relying on state-of-the-art technology and maximum operational reliability. The system will provide our air traffic controllers with optimal support in the safe handling of air traffic,” emphasized Austro Control Managing Director Philipp Piber at the contract signing in Graz. Commissioning in the Vienna Airport tower is planned for the end of 2028.

All safety-related information at a glance

In a traditional tower, air traffic controllers use several separate screens for different systems, for example, to display flight plans or for ground surveillance. OneControl integrates previously separate information systems on a common, intuitive platform. Air traffic controllers receive all relevant data bundled at a glance and can see more quickly what is happening on the apron, on the runway, and in the air. In addition to safe, efficient, and sustainable traffic management, the focus is on issues such as conflict detection, automated and intuitive workflows, and, in particular, reducing the workload of air traffic controllers.
