CAAi and AFCAC sign technical cooperation MoU at ICAO GISS

CAA International (CAAi) and the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation and support aviation safety and regulatory capacity‑building efforts across the African continent.

The MoU was formally signed earlier today by Ms. Adefunke Adeyemi, Secretary General of AFCAC, and Mr. Matthew Margesson, Managing Director of CAAi, during the ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) in Marrakech. The agreement establishes a collaborative framework spanning regulatory oversight capabilities, capacity development, training, innovation, and digital transformation to assist strengthening civil aviation authorities throughout Africa.

Africa’s aviation sector continues its rapid ascent, with international seat capacity forecast to grow by 18.6% in 2026[1], underscoring the need to bolster regulatory capability and enhance safety performance to ensure resilient, sustainable growth.

Speaking after the signing, Matthew Margesson said:

The partnership marks a significant step toward strengthening regulatory capabilities and harmonisation within the African continent, reinforcing aviation institutions, and supporting the continued growth and resilience of Africa’s aviation ecosystem.
