Airservices Australia and Airways New Zealand have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance collaboration across air traffic management, operational resilience and regional coordination.
The agreement, signed at the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO) Airspace Asia Pacific conference this week, establishes a framework for enhanced cooperation in operational contingency planning, innovation in air traffic management, workforce capability and advanced safety analytics.
Airservices Australia Chief Executive Officer Rob Sharp said the new partnership marked an important step forward in strengthening the relationship between the region’s two biggest Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs).
“This MOU formalises what has become an exceptionally strong working relationship with our New Zealand counterparts,” Mr Sharp said.
“This collaboration will accelerate innovation in air traffic management, build greater operational resilience and ultimately deliver more efficient services for passengers and airlines across the region.”
Airways New Zealand Chief Executive James Young said the agreement reflects the shared commitment to delivering safe skies today and tomorrow.
“This partnership enables us to combine expertise and resources to address common challenges and deliver innovative solutions for the aviation sector,” Mr Young said.
“By working together, we can strengthen operational resilience and support the region’s future growth.”
Under the MOU, the two ANSPs will share knowledge and best practices, explore joint initiatives and coordinate on regional activities to improve safety, resilience and the performance of air traffic services in the region.
The partnership also provides a platform for secondments, joint training and collaborative development programs to bolster workforce resilience and capability.
The MOU will focus on four key areas:
- Operations and Innovation;
- Workforce Planning and Training;
- Safety Intelligence, Risk Modelling and Performance Monitoring; and
- International Coordination and Regional Capacity Building.
The agreement builds on the existing cooperation between the two organisations, including longstanding collaboration in training and technology, and will remain in effect for three years.
