Fintraffic has completed a Group-wide strategy update that defines the strategic operational priorities for 2026–2030. Main objectives are defined for each mode of transport for the coming years based on the Group’s common priorities. The objectives of Fintraffic’s Air Navigation Services for 2026 focus on legal compliance, digitalisation of aviation, and promoting staff well-being and competencies.
As air navigation services are heavily regulated, the strategic priorities are primarily the same as in previous periods. However, as technology and tools change, the ways in which they are implemented develop as well.
“The principles of air navigation are defined by the operating environment and regulation of aviation. Our annual targets are, in many respects, guided by the EU-mandated performance plan. It forms the basis for meeting the cost-efficiency, safety, environmental and punctuality objectives set for Finland. Noteworthy group-level objectives include the utilisation of data and related opportunities for the creation of new types of services and business,” says Raine Luojus from Fintraffic’s Air Navigation Services.
Fintraffic’s Air Navigation Services enables the use of Finnish airspace
The basic task of Air Navigation Services is to enable the use of Finnish airspace every second of each day. Therefore, the first of three strategic priorities for 2026 is the meeting of safety, punctuality, cost-efficiency and environmental objectives in accordance with responsibility and impact objectives.
“We aim to ensure that our operations have no negative impact on the use of airspace. In addition, we measure the quality of our operations and develop our services to better meet customer needs. We regularly train in temporary facilities to ensure continuous operations and staff competence in emergencies,” Luojus explains.
In addition, our development of operations includes responsible strategic initiatives and investments as well as international cooperation. Air Navigation Services actively participate in international development initiatives that benefit Finnish aviation, closely cooperating especially with the air navigation operators of neighbouring countries.
“We are involved in various international alliances, we make carefully considered joint procurements and we are investing in international education export. For instance, we are currently working on the possibility of joint virtual air navigation services with Estonia. Our various joint initiatives and investments are long-term efforts partially guided by aviation sector regulation,” Luojus continues.
Air navigation services require human effort
The second priority objective for air navigation services 2026 is linked to the digitalisation of aviation. The aim is to develop a digital portfolio for refining air navigation services for customers, stakeholders and the development of Fintraffic operations alike.
“We utilise internal and external data in our daily operations and service development. ensuring the availability of data according to stakeholder needs. In addition, we actively seek out opportunities presented by data for new aviation-related business,” Luojus states.
The third primary objective is related to meeting the objectives set for group-wide services, such as HR, finances and procurement, communications, and IT.
“We operate using world-class technology and great systems. Nevertheless, we are a services business, with people who use those systems to create our service. This is why we focus on good management, grassroots business culture and fostering personnel competences in the coming period as well. New for 2026 is the automation of financial reports, which further engages heads of units in budget control,” Luojus continues.
