Africa’s Cabo Verde Selects Aireon ADS-B Data for Safe and Efficient Skies

The African island nation of Cabo Verde will deploy Aireon’s space-based automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) data air traffic surveillance for the oceanic portion of its Sal oceanic flight information region (FIR), a key airspace for traffic in the Europe – South America (EUR-SAM) corridor.

Cabo Verde in West Africa joins its ANSP neighbors Nav Portugal in Europe, ASECNA in Africa, and Cayenne in South America as Aireon customers in the region. The 1.3 million square kilometer Sal Oceanic FIR sees robust traffic flows of flights from Europe to South America.

The Aireon ADS-B data has the potential to unlock a number of safety and operational benefits for Cabo Verde, particularly due to the country’s predominantly international and oceanic flights.
